Discover the Circular Economy – A New Series of Animations

At East Riding of Yorkshire Council, we’re committed to helping local businesses grow sustainably. Through our Business Support Services, and with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), we have been providing practical tools like energy audits, self-assessments, and grants to support carbon reduction. Now, we’re taking this further with a set of new animated videos introducing the circular economy – a fresh way of thinking about business, waste, and value.

But what is the circular economy? In short, it’s about designing waste out of the system, keeping products and materials in use for as long as possible, and regenerating nature. It’s not just about recycling – it’s about rethinking how we make, use, and dispose of things to create a more sustainable and resilient future.

These short animations break down each of the key principles:

  1. Eliminate Waste and Pollution – Learn how reusable packaging and resource efficiency can avoid wastage of valuable resources and be positive for the planet. Discover real-life examples, like the family love business I Love Zero in Pocklington, who sell products which are free from all non-recyclable packaging where possible.
  2. Circulate Products and Materials – Explore ways to reuse, repair, refurbish, and recycle, keeping products in use at their highest value. You’ll see how small changes, like take-back schemes or using recycled inputs, can lead to cost savings and new revenue streams. Look out for local examples like Elite Office Furniture, based in Goole.
  3. Regenerate Nature – Find out how your business can actively support nature, whether through sourcing materials sustainably in your supply chains or promoting biodiversity. You’ll see how businesses like Frith Community Farm are leading the way with regenerative practices.

These animations are designed to be fun, accessible, and practical – perfect for new start-ups and SMEs looking to explore low-carbon, circular business models. Whether you’re a retailer, manufacturer, or service provider, the circular economy presents opportunities to innovate, reduce costs, and play a vital role in tackling climate change.

By adopting these principles, East Riding businesses can align with both national targets and our local Climate Change Strategy, which outlines our ambition for a greener, more resilient economy. We hope these videos will inspire you to think differently about your business model and take the next step toward circular thinking.
